Pastoral Care Ministry

Parkdale’s Pastoral Care Ministry provides care for seniors and other vulnerable people in our congregation and community. This includes, but is not limited to: visiting, praying, phoning and providing food.

 

 

 

Minister of Pastoral Care

Rev. Debbie Roi is Parkdale’s Minister of Pastoral Care. When Debbie Roi was a high school student, she had stirrings of becoming a church minister, but eventually chose a different path that led to a career as an occupational therapist. After spending 20 years focusing on the physical health and well-being of others, she responded to the pull of her original passion - which came as a “tap on the shoulder” - and she became a minister so she could focus on others’ spiritual health.   [More ...]

Pastoral Care Services

 

 

Visitations:

 

Regularly visit people who live in seniors’ residences and nursing homes, as well as, those who still live on their own but have difficulty attending church on a regular basis. Currently there are approximately 40 people who are visited.

 

 

Special Communion Services:

 

Hold special Easter and Thanksgiving Communion Services for seniors who cannot come to church on a regular basis. A time of fellowship is held after each service where the seniors had an opportunity to chat.

 

Transportation:

 

Provide transportation for those in need.

 

 

Easter Lilies:

 

Deliver Parkdale’s Easter lilies to people who live in seniors’ residences and nursing homes, as well as, those who live on their own.

 

Caring Kitchens Program:

 

 

Cook food or meals for those in need.

College and University Student Care Packages:

 

Prepare care packages of small items, such as, hot chocolate, chocolate bars, cookies, etc. that are delivered to students studying for final exams.

Prayer Groups

     

 

Prayer Group:

 

Meet bi-monthly on Wednesday mornings to respond prayerfully to requests from the congregation, as well as, pray for the life ministry of the congregation, and for our neighbourhood, city, country and the world. There is a prayer box located at the rear, north entrance of the Sanctuary where members of the congregation can leave their prayer requests.

 

Prayer Shawl Group:

 

Meet bi-monthly on Wednesday mornings from 10:30-11:30 for a sacred time of knitting and crocheting prayer shawls which will be delivered to those in need of prayer. Everyone from beginner to expert is welcome.

Benevolent Fund

      

On Communion Sundays, a second offering is collected with donations going to Parkdale’s Benevolent Fund.

At the discretion of the Pastoral Care staff, Parkdale's Benevolent Fund provides direct support and assistance, such as: food vouchers, meal tickets, clothing and rent support to individuals and families in need. On average, 25-30 individuals are helped each month.
