Introduction to
Congregational Ministry Opportunities @Parkdale United Church

A Christian congregation is a local expression of the global Church of Jesus Christ, mandated to serve God by following the way of Jesus. As such, our congregation has virtually the same mandate as all communities of faith, gathered around the life, teachings, death and resurrection of Jesus. This mandate is essentially comprised of a dual role. Firstly, God calls a Christian community of faith to be like a spiritual garden wherein we are formed, nurtured, and challenged as we grow in faith and discipleship. Secondly, God also calls each of us to reach out in compassion, service, faith-sharing, peace-making, and justice-seeking to the surrounding neighbourhood and beyond.

Everyone in the congregation is called to participate in and support this dual role in some way through sharing our Spirit-given gifts, time, wisdom, prayers, experience, skills, commitment and faith. The way in which the congregation live out this dual role is organized and administered through “ministries,” which include: faith formation for all ages; worship; committees; fellowship groups; outreach initiatives, pastoral care and visitation; and programs. We all have a part to play in these ministries, and in doing so, we grow in the practice of faith, deepen our joy, have fun and meet new people, live out our passion to give and help others, help to mend the world, and learn how to better steward (i.e. take care of and put into practice) God’s purpose for our lives.
