Helping Hands, Serving Hearts
As a Christian community of faith, we are called to serve God by reaching out to others to share our faith, as well as our time, talents, wisdom, prayers and skills. At the congregational level, Parkdale lives out this mandate through various “ministries.” These are referenced in the Ministries section of the Parkdale website: https://parkdaleunitedchurch.ca/growinginfaith/
We all have a part to play in helping out with these ministries. With this in mind, the Stewardship Committee collected a comprehensive list of opportunities in order to create a How to Serve section on Parkdale’s website, which lists a number of Volunteer Opportunities. Check this page: https://parkdaleunitedchurch.ca/how-to-serve/
If you’ve been considering how to get more involved in life at Parkdale or if you’ve been reflecting on ways to lend a helping hand, you will find a broad range of volunteer opportunities at your fingertips. So, click away until you find a task that suits your Spirit-given gifts.
You can also locate the complete Parkdale website through a Google search (Parkdale United Church Ottawa).
You’re not a hands-on person? You need not be “hands off” with respect to serving God. In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., “You don’t have to have a college degree to serve…You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.” Dr. King was a visionary with a dream for the world. Do you have a dream for Parkdale? Perhaps you are a visionary or you have discernment skills. Your innovative ideas could make all the difference to one of Parkdale’s committees or governance boards.
Helping out with our ministries can be a great way to meet new people, take on a new challenge, have fun and help others. There are certainly a lot of ways to serve God at Parkdale!
Indeed, there are many more opportunities for participation than those listed on the website so feel free to contact one of our ministers, who would be delighted to share their in-depth knowledge about activities in the various areas of ministry and help you to discern the types of ministry that would enable you to live out God’s purpose for your life.
Alternatively, you may wish to telephone the Office Manager in the church office or speak directly with someone who is doing what you would like to do and ask how you can get involved in one of Parkdale’s wonderful ministries.
Respectfully submitted,
